The Saturday match of the French "Ligue 1" championship between the teams of "Saint-Etienne" and "Nice" was overshadowed by a terrible injury to the "green" defender Jeremy Clement - the footballer broke his shin and his career hung by a thread.
Although "Saint-Etienne", who currently sits in third place in the tournament table, won the match 4-0, the team's players did not celebrate the victory after the game and hurried to the locker room, waiting for news about their teammate J. Clement.
In the 24th minute of the match, "Nice" defender Valentin Eysseric's open leg struck J. Clement's shin, which dangerously hit the ground and twisted the footballer's face with pain.
Although the "Nice" players initially tried to argue that nothing serious had happened, V. Eysseric was shown a red card, and J. Clement was taken off the field on a stretcher. The footballer's teammates were clearly shocked by the sight - the Frenchman's shin looked terrible.
After the match, it was revealed that J. Clement's 28-year-old injury was very serious - an open shin fracture that posed a threat to the footballer's future career.
"It's terrible - the injury is very severe. We are very saddened, even though we won 4-0, we did not celebrate the victory. Jeremy's leg broke with an open fracture and he was operated on. We can only hope that the bone holding the foot will not be severely damaged, as such injuries can have serious consequences in the future. I saw his leg, I am not a doctor, but it still makes me sick. Jeremy is very brave, he will endure," said "Saint-Etienne" president Roland Romeyer, shocked after the match.
The team's assistant coach Alain Blanchon was no less frightened. The football specialist hoped that J. Clement would be able to continue his football career.
"Jeremy's season, of course, is over, we can only hope that his career will continue. Our team is a family and everyone is shocked. After Jeremy's injury, the victory was no longer important, because he is our friend and a very important member of the team," said A. Blachon.
