Club defender Fernando Hierro will finish his professional football career after this season. The footballer's contract with an English club is valid until the end of this season and the Spaniard stated that he does not want to extend it.

The 37-year-old veteran has been in great athletic form this season. Although the team's coach Sam Allardyce did not hide his desire to extend the contract with the player for another year, the former Real Madrid footballer decided to retire.

"I am completely sure about my decision, I wanted to retire while playing at the highest level of football," - said the veteran.

F. Hierro began his career at the "Valladolid" team. In 1989, after signing a contract with the legendary "Real" club, the Spaniard represented them for as long as 14 years, during which he won the UEFA Cup three times and triumphed in the Spanish league six times. In 2003, when the Madrid club released him and their coach at the time, V. Del Bosque, F. Hierro moved to Qatar, a particularly popular destination for European veterans, where he played for one season before coming to England.
