D.Maradona: I Want to Coach the "Barcelona" Team © EuroFootball.com

Diego Maradona said he would like to become the coach of Barcelona one day.

"One of my personal dreams is to coach Lionel Messi in the Barcelona team," admitted the legendary Argentine footballer in an interview with the newspaper "Marca" (Spain).

D. Maradona has already coached the best player in the world in 2012, when he held the reins of the Argentine national team from 2008-2010.

Taking the opportunity in the Spanish newspaper "El Pibe de Oro" (D. Maradona's nickname) defended his fellow countryman, who received a lot of criticism after unsuccessful matches in the Champions League quarterfinals with AC Milan (0:2) and "El Clasico" battles with Real Madrid in the King's Cup semifinals (1:3) and La Liga (1:2).

"I don't think anyone has the right to 'kill' Messi when he had a couple of bad matches, especially considering all the goals he scored this season before," explained D. Maradona.

The legendary Argentine is convinced that the current problems of the Catalan club were caused by the departure of Pepe Guardiola and the disastrous preparation for this season.

"Barcelona's game completely collapsed due to poor attacking starts. Instead of the ball being near the opponent's goal after three passes, now they do other things. They constantly touch the ball without any purpose," said D. Maradona, who himself wore the Barcelona shirt in 1982-1984. - Furthermore, they had a very poor preparation for the season. They travelled around the world to play friendly matches, because the club paid them a little for it. They were in China, Malaysia, and elsewhere."
