Before the second leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match, Bayern's coach Jupp Heynckas spared no praise for his opponent, Arsenal's manager Arsene Wenger.
The first clash between these teams at the Emirates Stadium ended with a score of 3-1, and on Wednesday evening Arsenal will try to accomplish the almost impossible task of overcoming Bayern, the tournament's runners-up, by a three-goal difference.
The 67-year-old Bavarian team coach will pass on the head coaching position to Pep Guardiola in the summer, but he wouldn't want Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal after such a long period without titles.
“Wenger not only brought success to the Arsenal club, but he is also a very creative strategist, whose team has been demonstrating fantastic football for many years,” praised Heynckes his opponent.
“Perhaps lately luck turned away from Arsenal, but Wenger's players always demonstrate the most beautiful football. In my opinion, he is the best strategist of the last 10 or 15 years,” Heynckes continued.
“In recent years, the best footballers have turned their backs on Arsene and have been sold. I think Wenger found it difficult to come to terms with that,” the German coach added.
“I am convinced that they will come to the Allianz Arena and give everything they have. Last season Arsenal lost in Milan with a score of 0-4, but in London they showed character, winning 3-0, and it was close to leveling the result, because there were certainly opportunities,” the opposing coach did not underestimate Arsenal.
This season marks the eighth year in which London's Arsenal has suffered from a drought of titles. Currently, the Gunners occupy the 5th position in the Premier League.
