Blatteris: the European Championship, taking place in more than one country, will lose its spirit © EuroFootball.com

FIFA President Sepp Blatter criticizes UEFA's decision to host the 2020 European Championship in several countries.

It is planned that the continental tournament will not take place in one or two countries, as was customary until now, but in thirteen different cities across Europe.

"I once told Michel Platini that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi proposed a similar option when he wanted to host the 2010 World Cup in Libya," Blatter said. "So this is not a new idea.

"In my opinion, the tournament should take place in one country, as it creates a unique identity and feeling of euphoria. Just look at the 2006 tournament in Germany. The new format will not be the true European Championship, as, in my opinion, it lacks a certain spirit."

In 2020, there will no longer be tournament hosts, so all UEFA member states will compete in the qualifiers. Specific cities in the group stage will be assigned based on the principle of "no more than a 2-hour flight," which should preserve the opportunity for fans to support their teams.
