Approaching the culmination of the season, the managers of the English Premier League club Sunderland have dismissed head coach Martin O'Neill.

The "Black Cats" have won only once in their last eight matches and are just one point above the teams in the relegation zone.

The 61-year-old O'Neill has worked for almost one and a half years, replacing Steve Bruce. In 55 national league games, he managed to achieve 16 victories. On Saturday, his team lost 0-1 to Manchester United.

The favorite to replace the Northern Irishman is the controversial Italian Paolo Di Canio, who recently left the third division club Swindon. Other names mentioned include Steve McClaren, Mark Hughes, Roberto Di Matteo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and Gus Poyet.
