Hope of reaching the final stage of the European Youth Championship (under 19) was lost on Friday by the Lithuanian national team, which was defeated by the host Russia team at the Moscow "Spartak" stadium in the mini-tournament of Group 6.

Although the first half of the game was even, in the 38th minute after a corner kick the ball bounced to I. Shpakov, who sent the ball into the net with a long shot. The Russians took the initiative and in the seventh minute of the second half, the same Shpakov doubled the score.

The victory for the Russian youth team was secured with a goal by I. Starkov in the 67th minute. After this defeat, the Lithuanians lost their hopes to advance further, with the Russians sharing the second place with Ukraine, who were defeated by Norway with a crushing 1-5 score in the next group match.

In their last matches on Sunday, Lithuania will try to earn at least a point in the match against Ukraine, who also no longer have a chance, while for the Russian team to secure first place they need a victory against Norway.
