Britas Stuart spent the first time in the last 40 years watching the matches of his beloved football club "Nottingham Forest."
The 67-year-old pensioner, who previously worked as a railway engineer, had not missed any matches of the "Nottingham Forest" club playing in the second division of England since 1973. Britas attended 1786 consecutive football matches, reports mirror.co.uk.
Not even a foot infection could stop the devoted fan from attending his team's match against Brighton on Saturday. However, he was forbidden by doctors to attend the away match against Burnley as he needed to undergo foot surgery.
The first time Britas visited a "Nottingham Forest" match was in 1956, and he watched a total of 2534 team matches at the stadium. The last time S. Astillas could not attend a match was in 1973 when he was at a wedding.
"I knew that my streak would end someday, but I didn't think it would be so soon. It was strange to listen to the match on the radio; I missed the atmosphere of the stadium," said S. Astillas.
Since the establishment of the Premier League in 1993, the "Nottingham Forest" club has never played in it, although they had spent 16 consecutive years in the top division of England before that and won the only title in the 1977-1978 season.
S. Astillas admitted that if the team played in the Premier League, it would have been much harder for him - "I don't know if I could have afforded to visit all the stadiums."
Britas calculates that over the years, he has traveled over 160,000 kilometers by train, bus, car, and plane to support his beloved team.
