"Real" Madrid today officially announced that they have extended the contract with left-back defender Marcelo until 2018. The previous contract of the former Brazilian national team player was supposed to end in 2015, but the footballer decided to link his future with the Madrid team without waiting for anything. According to the new contract, Marcelo will earn almost double. The defender used to earn 2.3 million euros per season, but now the amount has increased to 4 million euros. Florentino Perez was pleased that the defender extended his contract: "Marcelo is one of the best left-back defenders in the world, and I am very happy that we have such a player in the team." The 24-year-old former "Fluminense" player has not had many opportunities to play this season under the management of Jose Mourinho, as he was sidelined for about two months due to injury, and now Fabio Coentrao is increasingly being included in the starting lineup. Marcelo arrived at "Real" Madrid in 2007. During this time, he played 223 matches, made 31 assists, and scored 17 goals."
