Real Madrid sports director Tonis Munoz confirmed that the club rejected offers from English football giants - and - to buy the team's star Fernando Torres.

This forward, who is a candidate to represent the Spanish national team in the European Championship, is one of the most sought-after European players.

For some time now, there have been rumors that "Chelsea" and "Man Utd" are particularly interested in this 19-year-old player, and recently reports have appeared in the Spanish press that "Man Utd" offered a sum of 35 million euros (almost 121 million litas) for the young star and their striker Uruguayan Diego Forlan.

Torres, who has already scored 15 goals this season, is very popular among the club's fans, and a representative of "Atletico" stated that the club has high hopes for this player and definitely does not intend to sell him.

Munoz also added that the club's financial situation is under control and that the club wants to grow. He can only do this by playing in European tournaments and buying players who will help them compete for the top four spots in the Spanish league every year.

Additional reports have emerged in England that "Chelsea" owner Roman Abramovich is very keen on having this player in his team. To make it happen, he is willing to pay 115 million litas to "Atletico" and allow the Spaniards to choose two "Chelsea" players. Possible candidates mentioned include Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Claude Makelele.
