Football club "Ekranas" terminated the contract with head coach Valdas Urbonas by mutual agreement. The strategist led the team since 2008.
In his first year with "Ekranas," V. Urbonas ended the domination of FBK "Kaunas" in the A League and immediately became the best coach in the Lithuanian championship. The Panevėžys native was voted the best A League coach three times in the last five years (2008, 2011, 2012).
The coach also achieved a unique record in Lithuanian football history. The 45-year-old strategist was recognized as the only coach whose team triumphed in the country's championship for five consecutive years. With V. Urbonas at the helm, "Ekranas" raised the LFF Cup twice and won the Super Cup the same number of times. For four years in a row, "Ekranas" represented Lithuania in the Champions League qualification matches.
Under V. Urbonas' guidance, "Ekranas" played 215 official matches, of which 138 ended in victories for the people of Panevėžys.
It is not yet clear who will take over the vacant position of the team's head coach. For now, the current coaching staff will lead the team. The club thanks V. Urbonas for his contribution to the team's achievements and wishes him success in his future career.
