"The times of 'Barcelona' are over, it's 'Bayern's' turn" - shouted the headlines of German newspapers, but that is vehemently opposed by the Catalan team's midfielder Andres Iniesta, who is convinced that one defeat is not the end of an era of giants, writes foxsports.com.
On Tuesday, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, Barcelona's team was crushed 0:4 in an away game against Munich's "Bayern" footballers. It was the biggest defeat for Barcelona's team in Europe in 16 years.
Over the past few years, Barcelona's team has been defeated by London's "Chelsea", "AC Milan", Madrid's "Real", and Glasgow's "Celtic" teams. However, Iniesta is convinced that the successful football model from Spain has not moved to Munich.
"I think it is unfair to talk about the end of an era. This team has won the Champions League twice in the last five years, is on the way to a fourth triumph in five years in the Spanish league. We have won the Super Cup and everything. If you equate one match to all the years, it won't make any sense. The end of an era is when you no longer win titles," said the 28-year-old footballer.
"People should really respect the players, the coach, and the entire club. We need to improve, but it's evolution. There is no point in talking about the end of an era," Iniesta stated.
No team in the Champions League has ever managed to turn around a 0:4 loss in the first leg, but the player insists that the team will do everything to delight their fans at the "Nou Camp" stadium on Wednesday.
"Bayern is playing very well now. It's painful that we are carrying such huge expectations that our opponents have set, but we have to believe that we can correct everything," Iniesta said.
