"World and European champion Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque announced that he will step down from the "La Roja" coaching role after the 2014 World Cup and will take on the duties of an ambassador for the Spanish Football Federation.
"The last tournament in which I will be the coach of the Spanish national team will be the World Cup next year in Brazil. After that, I would like to work for the Spanish Football Federation in some representative capacity," V. del Bosque told the Argentine news agency "Telam."
The 62-year-old football specialist led the Spanish national team to victory in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and last year he guided the team to their second consecutive European championship title.
V. del Bosque stated that in the upcoming world championships, the South American giants - Argentina and the tournament hosts Brazil - have great chances.
Speaking about the UEFA Champions League semi-final matches that surprised many, the former Real Madrid coach said that it is still a bit early to talk about a new era of German dominance in European football based on just these two results.
"We can't just talk about these two results. In the knockout stages, Spain had three teams and that is a good achievement. Moreover, we cannot say that the winners of the semi-finals are already completely predetermined.
"Of course, no one expected such results, but Spanish football still remains in a leading position. In our country, there are many excellent footballers, the best foreign players come to us, and we have been at the top of the FIFA rankings for several years now. This shows that we are in a good position and should not start thinking pessimistically just because of these two matches," del Bosque said.
