"Aston Villa" team captain Stiliyan Petrov is retiring from professional football. The Bulgarian had not appeared on the field since March 2012, when he was diagnosed with leukemia. The 33-year-old defender started his career in his homeland, at "PFC Montana" club, later moved to Sofia's "CSKA", where he once won the national championship and twice - the cup tournament. In 1999, he moved to Glasgow's "Celtic" team for £2.8 million. In Scotland, with the team, the Bulgarian became the national champion four times, winning the cup twice. He joined the "Aston Villa" club in 2006. In his statement, S. Petrov thanked everyone who supported him in the club and his family.
