On Friday evening, the finals of the Spanish King's Cup were played, where two Madrid teams - "Real" and "Atletico" - met.
Playing at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium, the royal club footballers experienced a painful defeat after extra time against Diego Simeone's players.
The first half started more successfully for the home team, who attacked the opponents' goal from the beginning. In the 13th minute, "Real" took the lead when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal with a header after Mesut Ozil's cross.
Despite a more successful game by "Los Blancos", "Atletico" managed to equalize. Diego Costa scored after a great run by Radamel Falcao.
In the second half, the teams had no time to rest, as every minute could be crucial. Jose Mourinho's team had great opportunities to take the lead again, but the "Atletico" players returning to the UEFA Champions League were saved from a goal by the goal post several times.
When the referee blew the final whistle, the scoreboard showed a tie, which meant extra time. In the remaining thirty minutes, there were no shortage of incidents, and two players were shown red cards.
It was in the 98th minute that Miranda scored the winning goal, which meant victory for "Atletico". Both teams had chances to score in the remaining time, but the pressure felt greater from the "Real" team, who almost created a miracle at the end of the extra time.
It is worth mentioning that Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabi both received their second yellow cards during extra time and were sent off.
This was the last time that D.Simeone's players won the "Copa del Rey" final in the 1995-1996 season when they defeated "Barcelona". At the end of the summer, the Spanish Super Cup will take place, where the new champions of Spain and the King's Cup will meet.
