UEFA has taken steps to increase the prestige of the Europa League: starting from the 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 season, the winner of this tournament will receive an automatic ticket to the next season's Champions League.
This decision, aimed at increasing interest in the Europa League as a tournament not overshadowed by the Champions League, should be confirmed at the annual UEFA Congress, which will take place in London on Friday.
Currently, the most prestigious tournaments on the Old Continent are linked in reverse: clubs that finish third in the group stage of the Champions League and do not advance to the knockout rounds are moved to the Europa League.
This season, the Europa League tournament was won by London's Chelsea.
