At the press conference held on Tuesday, former Bayern Munich coach officially announced that he is ending his coaching career.
The 68-year-old specialist was still coaching the Bavarian team this season, but it was already clear in winter that former Barcelona strategist Josep Guardiola would take over the club's helm from the next season.
Although J. Heynckes had previously stated that he might consider retiring from professional football, Real Madrid was still trying to regain the coach from Germany.
According to J. Heynckes, he is currently tired. He needs a vacation, although he had received several offers from other European giants. Nevertheless, the coach does not promise to completely abandon football, as life is unpredictable, so he may return one day.
"Am I retiring? I don't like to use this word, because no one ever knows what the future holds, but at the moment I am saying goodbye to football," - said the specialist.
This season, the former footballer won three titles with Bayern. He triumphed in the UEFA Champions League, the German Bundesliga, and the DFB Pokal tournament.
Throughout his coaching career, J. Heynckes has coached nine teams. These are Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern Munich, Athletic Bilbao, Eintracht, Tenerife, Real Madrid, Benfica Lisbon, Schalke Gelsenkirchen, and Bayer Leverkusen.
