The coach of the Greek national team, Fernando Santos, after a short training camp, has already selected the majority of the starting eleven, which will take the field on Friday in the World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania.

It is planned to choose a conservative strategy and play with a clearly defined forward, who will form a tandem with a slightly withdrawn attacking player.

On Thursday afternoon, the Greek goal will be guarded by Orestis Karnezis, representing Atene's "Panathinaikos". The defense quartet will consist of Sokratis Papastathopoulos ("Borussia") and Kostas Manolas ("Olympiakos") in the center, Vassilis Torosidis ("Roma") on the right after recovering from injury, and Jose Holebas ("Olympiakos") on the left.

Questions remain in the midfield and defense: on the right and in the center. It is unclear whether Santos will choose Panagiotis Tachtsidis ("Roma") and Giorgos Karagounis ("Fulham"), or the duo of Dimitris Salpingidis (PAOK) and Panagiotis Kone ("Bologna"), who would play alongside Giannis Maniatis ("Olympiakos") and Kostas Katsouranis (PAOK).

It is certain that slightly withdrawn in the attacking midfield will be Giorgos Samaras ("Celtic"), and upfront - Theofanis Gekas ("Belediyespor").
