Before the 2014 World Cup qualifying matches between the national teams of Lithuania and Greece, sports journalists from these countries tested their strength on the football field.

"We continue the tradition of playing football with foreign country journalists visiting Lithuania. Large groups of media representatives arrive in Lithuania for every World or European Cup qualifying match. Greek journalists gladly accepted the invitation to test their strength on the football field. We also invited Greeks to visit the annual international journalists' football tournament held in Lithuania," said Tautvydas Vencevičius, chairman of the "Press'as" sports journalists club of the Lithuanian Journalists' Union.

The match between Lithuanian and Greek sports journalists ended in a Lithuanian victory with a score of 8:2. At the beginning of the match, the Greeks were the first to take the lead, but soon the hosts took the initiative and responded with three goals from Gintautas Dulskas. Before halftime, Lithuanian journalists had built up a significant lead of 5:1. In the second half, the Lithuanians increased the difference even more and achieved a decisive victory.

Greek journalists promised a rematch in the national team matches, but the Lithuanians believe in the success of their team - after the match, there were friendly bets between Lithuanian and Greek journalists.

"We plan to organize matches with journalists from other Lithuanian national team opponents. We have already agreed to meet with Latvian journalists in Riga and Vilnius, and we are planning matches in Vilnius with journalists from Bosnia. This is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and share experiences, which helps our country's journalists in competitions abroad," says T. Vencevičius.

The "Press'as" sports journalists club, uniting more than a thousand journalists in the Lithuanian Journalists' Union, was founded in 2005. The club organizes traditional tournaments every year - the international journalists' football tournament, the Lithuanian journalists' football and basketball championships. "Press'as" journalists represent Lithuania in international journalists' tournaments held abroad.
