This was revealed after the matches completed on Wednesday, in which the players of "Lanus", occupying the second place, lost 0:2 (0:2) as guests to "Estudiantes" team, which rose to the fifteenth position with 19 points. This meeting, which took place half a week ago, was interrupted during the break when it was revealed that one of the "Lanus" fans died in a clash with the police and another was seriously injured. "Estudiantes" led 2:0 after the first half.
After this match, the team of "Newell's Old Boys", leading in the tournament with twenty teams, has 38 points and leads the closest rivals - "Lanus" and "River Plate" clubs by six points.
Previously, the players of "Newell's Old Boys" won the national championship in 1974, 1988, 1991, 1992 (Clausura), and 2004 (Apertura).
In the super final of this season, the team of "Newell's Old Boys" will play against the champion of the first part of the championship (Torneo Inicial) - "Velez Sarsfield", which currently occupies the seventeenth position with 17 points in the second part.
