On Tuesday, the Italian financial police conducted a raid and collected documents from 41 Italian clubs. Law enforcement was particularly interested in the top clubs of the Serie A league. Eighteen clubs from these competitions were inspected - only two remained untouched.
Among those included in the case, which involves accusations of tax evasion and money laundering, is the Rome's Lazio team, represented by Marius Stankevicius.
The Italian media reported that among the contracts that raised suspicion among law enforcement are agreements of the Lithuanian defender with Lazio.
The financial police are particularly interested in some agents who have contracts with foreign and Italian footballers. It is not yet clear whether M. Stankevicius' contract violates Italian laws.
Only two Serie A clubs - Cagliari and Bologna - have avoided police scrutiny.
