London's Chelsea football club has announced on its website that it has reached an agreement with the Netherlands football league team Arnhem Vitesse to acquire 20-year-old defender Marco van Ginkel.
Celebrating his 20th birthday in January, the 186 cm tall midfielder who can play in defensive and attacking midfield positions will soon arrive in London, where he will undergo a medical examination and sign a contract.
Van Ginkel joined Vitesse's youth academy at the age of seven, and since 2010, he has been part of the main team. In the team, the Dutchman played 93 matches in the Dutch league and scored 18 goals.
Overall, he played 111 matches and scored 23 goals for the team in all competitions, with twelve of them coming in the previous season.
The footballer has already played one match for the Dutch national team.
Chelsea has not officially announced the fee for acquiring van Ginkel yet, but the defender is estimated to be worth around 8 million euros.
This is the second purchase of the summer for the London club – recently, forward Andre Schurrle was acquired from Bayer Leverkusen for 22 million euros.
