London's Chelsea club unexpectedly announced on Tuesday that they have signed goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who became a free agent this summer.
The 40-year-old Australian player spent five consecutive seasons playing for London's Fulham, but this summer he parted ways with the club.
Reportedly, M. Schwarzer has signed a one-year contract with the "Blues" team and will be a backup goalkeeper.
"It's a fantastic football club," the veteran officially told Chelsea's website. "It is one of the biggest and best clubs in the world, so I am delighted to join."
During his career, M. Schwarzer has worn the shirts of six different teams.
