"Barcelona" club quickly found a new team strategist - the 50-year-old Argentine Gerardo Martino, who will sign a two-year contract.

Over the weekend, the Catalan club announced that due to illness, head coach Tito Vilanova is stepping down from his position, leaving the team temporarily without a strategist.

G. Martino, also known as "Tata", has been coaching the Argentinian club "Newell‘s Old Boys" until now, leading them to the semi-finals of the "Copa Libertadores" tournament. There, they had to acknowledge the superiority of the "Atletico Mineiro" team.

The Argentine has also coached the Paraguay national team, leading them to the final of the "Copa America" in 2011. In the most important tournament matches, they had to acknowledge the superiority of Uruguay.

T. Vilanova started coaching the "Barcelona" team just last summer after Pep Guardiola resigned from the position, but in the autumn he was diagnosed with throat cancer. Despite eventually returning to the team, this summer he decided to prioritize his health and step down from his duties.

With "Barcelona", T. Vilanova managed to win the "Primera" championship title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they were defeated by the "Bayern" club.
