UEFA officially announced the report on the prizes paid to the participants of the 2012–2013 tournament. As expected, most of the earnings came from the Champions League, with Juventus of Turin, who was eliminated in the quarterfinals, earning the most, followed by the champion Bayern Munich.

The teams that earned the most prizes were Juventus of Turin (65.3 million euros), Bayern Munich (55 million), Borussia Dortmund (54.2 million), Milan (51.4 million), Real Madrid (48.4 million), Barcelona (45.5 million), and Paris Saint Germain (44.7 million).

UEFA distributed a total of 904 million euros to the participants of the Champions League.

Each team that advances to the group stage of the Champions League immediately receives a prize of 8.6 million euros. Teams earn a million for each victory, and 0.5 million for a draw. Teams that reach the knockout stage earn 3.5 million euros, quarterfinalists earn 3.9 million, semifinalists earn 4.9 million, the runner-up receives 6.5 million, and the champion receives 10.5 million euros.

However, the majority of the prizes come from TV broadcast sales and advertising. These prizes depend on the sale price of broadcasts in specific countries, the number of teams from one country, and other factors.

Italian clubs were unbeatable in this respect last season. Since only Juventus and Milan played in the Champions League from Italy last year, these teams collected all the money allocated to Italy.

Juventus earned 44.8 million euros from marketing alone, while Milan earned 36.3 million euros. The champion Bayern Munich received only 19.1 million euros from marketing.

Not only the defeated Borussia, both big Spanish clubs Barcelona and Real Madrid, but also the French teams Paris Saint Germain and Montpellier earned more money from marketing than Bayern Munich. The French teams ended their Champions League performance in the group stage.

The teams that received the least amount of prizes were Dinamo Zagreb (10.5 million), BATE Borisov (10.9 million), Sporting Braga (11.2 million), Dynamo Kyiv (11.5 million), and Anderlecht from Brussels (13.8 million). BATE club received only 290 thousand euros from marketing.
