"A terrible defeat. Dead team. The failure of the Griunwald battle," - this is how the Polish media described the loss of Poznan's "Lech" football team in Lithuania.
On Thursday, in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League, Vilnius' "Žalgiris" team beat the Polish vice-champions 1:0, forcing over 400 visiting fans to hang their heads in shame.
"Probably, no one expected this. "Lech" performed poorly in Lithuania and lost to "Žalgiris". If the Poznan team wants to move on to the next stage, they have to play much better," - wrote the website ekstraklasa.net. The title of the article is "Lech" Discredited in Vilnius.
The Sport.pl portal compared the "Lech" and "Žalgiris" match to the Griunwald (or Žalgiris) battle.
"The failure of the Griunwald battle. "Lech" lost terribly in Lithuania," writes sport.pl. - In the match, the ball was being taken away as in basketball. This is not surprising - Lithuanians love this sport. "Lech's decision to hold the ball away from the opponents' goal 30 meters did not pose any threat. The Poznan team couldn't handle the opponents. They ran freely and decided to press the guests."
