Having performed excellently this season in "Ligue 1" and securing the right to participate in the next season's UEFA Cup, the club has suffered its first loss - one of the attack leaders, Toifilou Maoulida, has left the team.
Maoulida joined "Rennes" just before this season, but immediately became an important player in the team and scored seven goals throughout the season. Now, with "Rennes" facing the possible loss of the top scorer of this season's "Ligue 1", Alexander Frei, Maoulida's departure is a painful blow to the team.
The 25-year-old Frenchman signed a four-year contract with "Monaco" and will most likely replace Javier Saviola returning to Spain after the loan agreement expires, as well as Shabani Nonda, who will probably leave the team.
"I am very happy to represent 'Monaco'," Maoulida said at a press conference. "It is one of the strongest clubs in France and I am extremely pleased to be able to play in a team led by Didier Deschamps."
Maoulida became the third acquisition for "Monaco" - the club had previously announced the signing of goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz from "Borussia", as well as Olivier Sorlin from "Rennes". It is also speculated that Monaco is actively interested in Olivier Kapo from "Juventus" and Gerard from "Barcelona".
