Barcelona defender Jordi Alba, who was injured in a match against Sevilla in the Spanish championship, will not play for at least three weeks.
The Catalan had to leave the field at the very beginning of the game, in the 14th minute. He was replaced by Brazilian Adriano Correia.
During the preliminary medical examination, it was suspected that J. Alba strained his Achilles tendon. It was already thought that the player could be out for two weeks due to this injury.
On Sunday, detailed tests confirmed the initial prognosis - Alba was diagnosed with a strained right Achilles tendon. According to a statement from the Barcelona medical staff, the player's rehabilitation will take not two, but three weeks.
One of the main Barcelona players will be missing during an active phase of the season. In three weeks, the Spanish champions will play as many as 6 official matches: 4 games in La Liga and 2 matches in the Champions League.
It is believed that J. Alba will miss the matches against Madrid's Rayo Vallecano, San Sebastian's Real Sociedad, Almeria, Real Valladolid, Ajax Amsterdam, and Glasgow Celtic.
After the Spanish championship match against Valladolid on October 5, the players will once again depart for their national teams.
