Ikero Casillas' troubles continue. On Tuesday, the new Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti kept his promise and entrusted the team's goalkeeper position to the Spaniard in the Champions League match.
However, just 15 minutes into the game, the 32-year-old goalkeeper had to leave the field. He injured his rib colliding with his teammate Sergio Ramos.
Real's medical staff quickly assessed the injury, but soon it became clear that the team captain could not continue the match and was replaced by Diego Lopez. Real crushed Istanbul's Galatasaray 6-1 in the Champions League group stage.
C. Ancelotti said he hopes that I. Casillas will recover in three or four days. However, the Spanish media reports that the goalkeeper may have to stay on the sidelines for two weeks.
"He has had a lot of bad luck, but that's how it goes. He will recover quickly," said Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored three goals against the Turkish team.
Casillas has almost not played since January. Back then, during a Copa del Rey match, Alvaro Arbeloa accidentally hit him on the hand and broke a bone.
His return was blocked by former coach Jose Mourinho, who preferred D. Lopez, allowing him to play more.
Ancelotti used D. Lopez in four La Liga matches, stating that the latter would play in the local tournament, while Casillas would play in the Champions League, a promise he kept.
