Amsterdam "Ajax" defender Stefano Denswila before the first UEFA Champions League match of the season against "Barcelona" club said that in every match his duty is to deal with opponents' attackers - he is ready to do that even with Lionel Messi.
"Is playing against Lionel Messi a nightmare? Maybe. Yes, it's difficult, but I am an "Ajax" defender, so in every match I am ready to eat up opponents' attackers alive, no matter if their name is Messi or something else," said S. Denswila to "De Telegraaf" journalists.
The 20-year-old defender will start the UEFA Champions League season with the Amsterdam team on Wednesday. "Ajax" and "Barcelona" clubs will clash in the Camp Nou stadium in the Catalan capital of Barcelona. Interestingly, these teams will meet in official matches for the first time in history.
"These matches will be a great opportunity for me to compare my capabilities with other European stars. In such matches, you learn more than in ten Dutch football league games combined.
All kids dream of growing up to play for "Barca," but it's not bad to be on the other side of the barricade. Personally, I will be very happy to play against L. Messi - if I could stop him, it would greatly boost my self-confidence," said S. Denswila.
The "Ajax" and "Barcelona" match will take place on Wednesday at 21:45 Lithuania time. In group H, besides these teams, "Milan" and Glasgow "Celtic" teams will also compete.
