On Wednesday, Dortmund's Borussia lost 1-2 to Napoli in the first Champions League match of the season.
The team's coach Jurgen Klopp took full responsibility for the defeat - he couldn't control his emotions. From the 30th minute, Borussia's players had to cope without their coach - he was sent off the field for arguing with the referee.
After the match, Dortmund's coach apologized to the referee, officials, and the whole team for his inappropriate behavior.
"The situation with Neven Subotic not being allowed on the field, I understood differently than it actually was. I thought the referee should wait and let the player onto the field. But he didn't do that. N. Subotic was actually not allowed on the field because the referee saw a small blood stain on the bandage. After the game, I apologized to the fourth official, referees, and the team.
My emotions turned our game into a hot-tempered one. When the coach is calm, we can achieve great results. The team's start was not the best, just like mine. If we had played as we really can, we would have won. Anything can happen in this group. We didn't lose anything. We lost away, nothing more," - explained Jurgen Klopp after the nerve-racking match.
After the match, Dortmund's player Nuri Sahin also did not hide his disappointment: "Everything that could go wrong, happened to us. In the first part of the match, we felt like we were in a wrong movie. It was a deserved defeat. Napoli controlled the ball very well. And we did everything we could. We had several great chances, but we were late to take advantage of them. Every defeat hurts, especially when you could have brought home a very important point. Luckily, there are still five matches left."
