Former Manchester United goalkeeping coach stated that current "Red Devils" goalkeeper number one - David de Gea - is lazy.

Eric Steele insists that when D. de Gea arrived at "Old Trafford" to replace the legendary Edwin van der Sar, he reluctantly participated in training sessions, slept for long periods of time, and ate numerous portions of takeout food.

The Spaniard from Madrid's "Atletico" arrived in England a couple of years ago. The goalkeeper was supposed to quickly replace the retiring E. van der Sar, but his adaptation to the Manchester United club faltered.

"He would finish training and immediately head home. When I told him he needed to come back in the afternoon, he would ask, 'Why?'" - said E. Steele, who left Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson was replaced by David Moyes.

"He had lifestyle problems. During the day, he would nap two or three times. At night, he would eat his main meal. He also often indulged in takeout food."

When D. de Gea arrived, he was specifically under the responsibility of E. Steele, who was surprised by the new goalkeeper's behavior. However, the Spaniard was publicly accused of being reluctant to learn English as well.

"David is lazy when it comes to his dedication to learning English. That's why I learned Spanish," said E. Steele. "I told him he needed to improve, that everyone was watching him every day. In the first season, there were moments when he even trained poorly. After training, we would give him protein drinks. We physically forced him to drink them. We often took him to the gym, which he didn't like. In Spain, they often don't exercise there, but we needed to strengthen him."
