The national team of Lithuanian sports journalists and doctors encourages children and young people to engage in more physical activity. This Saturday, sports journalists and doctors will meet on the football field. The match will start at 11 a.m. at the LFF Stadium in Vilnius, and at 1 p.m., a family football tournament will begin on the same field. During the event, the health of all participants will be checked, and they will be taught how to provide first aid.

Meetings of sports journalists on the football field with doctors have already become a tradition. We aim to draw attention to the decreasing number of children and young people engaging in sports. We believe that such events will attract the attention of adults and make them think more about their own and their children's health, increase family physical activity, and promote healthy eating habits. We also want to draw the attention of government officials, as there is a huge lack of sports fields where children could spend their leisure time," said Tautvydas Vencevičius, the chairman of the sports journalists club "Press'as."

According to data from the World Health Organization, up to 70 percent of our health depends on ourselves - we need to exercise more, maintain a normal body weight, avoid smoking and second-hand smoke, limit alcohol consumption, and take other precautions. Only 20 percent of our health depends on genetics, and just 10 percent depends on medical care.

"This year, we will not limit ourselves to just football matches. In a specially equipped tent at the stadium, we will measure body mass index. Maintaining weight is one of the most important health prevention measures, as overweight increases the risk of heart disease and cancer. Exercise and proper nutrition are the best ways to control weight and live healthily," said the director of the Health Education and Disease Prevention Center and the head of the Lithuanian Medical Football Team Romas Sabaliauskas.

Studies have shown that 100 years ago, physical work accounted for about 95 percent of a person's total work, but recently, it has decreased to just 1 percent. Therefore, it is recommended to move more during leisure time, as sedentary work can greatly harm your health.
