T

he German national team would like to become the host of the 2024 European Championship.

The president of the country's football federation, Wolfgang Niersbach, revealed that they will submit an application to host the continent's championship after more than 10 years since the last one.

Germany has not hosted a European Championship as a united country before: West Germany was the host of the 1988 continental championship, while the united Germans had the honor of hosting the 2006 World Cup.

The federation president believes that it is time for another "summer fairy tale": "Eighteen years have passed since the unique World Cup, so it is time for a new summer fairy tale."

"We cannot submit the application yet, but UEFA can keep in mind that we will do it."

Germany last won the European Championship in 1996 when Oliver Bierhoff's goal secured a victory in the final against Czech Republic with a score of 2-1.
