Former assistant to manager Jose Mourinho at Madrid's "Real" club, Aitor Karanka, has taken the helm of the "Middlesbrough" team.

A. Karanka replaced Tony Mowbray in the position of head coach of the Championship team and signed a two and a half year contract.

The 40-year-old specialist is the first foreign manager of "Middlesbrough" and is thrilled to have become the head coach of the team.

"This day is very important in my career - it's my new job. Becoming a manager is the most wonderful thing in the world, because I believe this club is like a family," A. Karanka expressed his joy.

"It's my time now. I worked with J. Mourinho, who has influenced me a lot and taught me many things. This man helped me for months and advised me to come here," the coach confirmed.

During his professional football career, A. Karanka played for "Athletic Bilbao", Madrid's "Real" and "Colorado Rapids" teams, and in 2010 became the assistant coach of the royal club.
