On Sunday in the Ukrainian championship, Shakhtar Donetsk won 3-1 away against Odesa's Chornomorets, securing the title of champions with a four-point lead over Kyiv's Dynamo with one game left until the end of the competition.
Shakhtar took the lead against Chernomorets after 23 minutes with a goal from A. Tymoshchuk, but O. Kosyrin equalized the score in the 71st minute. In the final round of matches, the champion would have been determined between Shakhtar and Dynamo, who won 3-0 against Zakarpattya in their match, in a head-to-head duel.
However, with 15 minutes left, Shakhtar took the lead again - Brazilian Matuzalem scored, and in the last minute, O. Bielikas secured the victory and the first Ukrainian championship title since 2002 and only the second in the club's history. In general, during the fifteen years of Ukrainian independence, Kyiv's Dynamo has only been champions three times.
Thanks to their victory, Shakhtar will start the Champions League from the third qualifying round, while Dynamo, who finished second, will play in the second round. Donetsk's Metalurg earned a spot in the UEFA Europa League, while Dnipropetrovsk's Dnipro will have to secure the other spot in the last round.
