Long-time "Liverpool" player and team captain Steven Gerrard revealed to the media that former "Manchester United" manager Alex Ferguson offered him a long-term contract.
Wearing the Liverpool team shirt for his entire career - already 15 years - and becoming a symbol of the team, 33-year-old S. Gerrard was tempted to Manchester more than once.
"When I was 13 years old, I received a letter from them. They wanted to sign a seven-year contract with me. Then, at the beginning of the 2002-2003 season, they offered me a contract again. Of course, I refused," said S. Gerrard.
The English football star also stated that he never seriously considered becoming a player for London's "Chelsea," even though the club tempted him with impressive money.
"I took notice of Chelsea because there were huge changes happening in the club. They spent big money, and my relationship with Rafa (former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez) was a bit shaky," said S. Gerrard, who has been representing the Liverpool team since 1998 and has scored 100 goals in 453 matches.
