In the eighth-final of the German Football Cup (DFB-Pokal) on Tuesday night, four matches were played, including the participation of last year's vice champions, Borussia Dortmund team.
The incomplete Borussia team won 2-0 (1-0) away against the representative of the third German football division, Saarbrucken.
The goals for the winners were scored by Julian Schieber (19 min.) and Jonas Hofmann (49 min.).
Schalke team from Gelsenkirchen withdrew from the further fight for the trophy, losing 1-3 (0-3) at home to another Bundesliga team, Hoffenheim.
The guests defeated the hosts already in the first half, with goals from Kai Herdling (22 min.), Kevin Volland (32 min.) and Roberto Firmino (35 min.). After the break, Jefferson Farfan (67 min.) scored a consolation goal for Schalke.
Hoffenheim club currently occupies only the 14th place in the Bundesliga.
In other matches, the second division representative Kaiserslautern thrashed Union Berlin, also from the same division, 3-0 away. While the top league representative Hamburg defeated Cologne from the second division 2-1.
The remaining four eighth-final matches will take place on Wednesday evening. However, it is already clear that in the quarter-finals, Hoffenheim will face Hamburg, while Borussia will play against Wolfsburg or the winner of the Ingolstadt pair.
