FIFA officially announced three contenders for the "Ballon d'Or" award. They are Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Franck Ribery.

From the very beginning, it was thought that these three footballers would realistically compete for the "Golden Ball" trophies, which currently belongs to the leader of "Barcelona."

The four-time best player on the planet is likely to say goodbye to this title, as this season L. Messi did not play very successfully and suffered an injury, which has kept him out of the game until now.

Meanwhile, Munich's "Bayern" attacking leader triumphed in three tournaments last season and became one of the main candidates to win the "Ballon d'Or" award.

The final candidate is Real Madrid's forward C. Ronaldo, who is playing superbly this season and has scored 25 goals in 18 games. The Portuguese is the main contender to win this title.

Remember that the "Ballon d'Or" and other FIFA awards will take place on January 13th.
