Chelsea's strategist Jose Mourinho hopes that defender Ashley Cole will extend his contract with the club.
The experienced Englishman has recently lost his place in the starting lineup to Cesar Azpilicueta, but the team's coach believes that A.Cole can be kept in the team.
The 32-year-old footballer's contract with the "aristocrats" expires next summer. Nevertheless, J. Mourinho sees a future for the experienced Englishman in the club.
"I know him well. I understand that he is not happy with the current situation, but in training he proves that he is a true professional," said the Portuguese.
"He is a great guy and is respected by both me and the players. A.Cole will start the match against the "Steaua" club.
"Throughout the season, he will play many matches. I don't know if he will be able to regain his position in the starting lineup. But he will always be a great footballer," continued the strategist.
"Even if you don't play in every match, it doesn't mean you are bad and don't deserve a new contract. A.Cole will be offered an extension because he is a valuable player," Mourinho concluded.
In the ranks of Chelsea, the veteran has already played 324 matches.
