Although national football championships of many European leagues are just gaining momentum, football fans are already counting the tally of the most productive players, for which the "Golden Boot" award is given annually.
After last weekend, Madrid's "Real" leader Cristiano Ronaldo was surpassed in the tally by Luis Suarez ("Liverpool") and Diego Costa (Madrid's "Atletico"). Both sharpshooters scored two goals each over the weekend and helped their teams celebrate victories.
Interestingly, L. Suarez reached 17 goals in just eleven matches, while D. Costa needed 16, and C. Ronaldo - 15 games.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who scored one goal for "Paris Saint Germain" over the weekend, surpassed Nerijus Valskis, the top scorer of the Lithuanian football "A League." However, the leader of "Suduva" can no longer compete with the Swede, as the "A League" championship ended long ago. The Lithuanian should drop out of the top scorers among European players in the near future.
There have been quite a few changes in this year's tally so far. The top ten does not include Lionel Messi, who has been troubled by injuries, the previous winner of this award for the past two consecutive years. We also miss Radamel Falcao, who scored 28 goals last year, Jackson Martinez and Robin van Persie, who scored 26 times, or Stefano Kiessling and Alvaro Negredo, who struck 25 times accurately.
In last year's tally, only the top scorer of the Austrian Bundesliga, Philipp Hosiner, from the "smaller" leagues made it to the top ten.
Among the players currently in the top ten, only C. Ronaldo has won the award - in the 2010-2011 season.
