Currently in Argentina, Lionel Messi sharply criticized the gossipmongers trying to smear him and his family.
Known even to the Barcelona vice president in charge of the economic sector, Javier Faus, whose responses about allegedly a new footballer's contract in the media were understood ambiguously.
A few weeks ago there were reports that L. Messi allegedly wanted to review his current contract with Barcelona and wished for a raise in his salary.
Speaking with journalists, J. Faus carelessly stated that Barcelona does not intend to sign a new contract with L. Messi in the near future, because he currently has a contract valid until 2018.
The uncertain and thoughtless response of one of the leaders of the Catalan club became a perfect bait for sensation hunters. Some tabloids and portals soon erupted with reports that Barcelona does not want to pay a higher salary to its leader.
Such interpretations enraged L. Messi, who is currently recovering from injury.
"Javier Faus knows nothing about football. He heads Barca as a business, but Barca is the best football club and must have the best leaders. I want to state that neither I nor my representatives demanded a review of the current contract or an increase in salary," the Argentinean told journalists from the radio station "RAC 1."
The footballer was also upset by rumors that alleged funds received for his friendly matches cycle last summer were hidden.
"I am very unpleasant to hear what is being said about my father and my friends. I did not read those reports in the newspapers, but my close people told me everything. All the funds received from friendly matches went to charity and nothing was hidden," said the Argentinean.
"The only truth now is that I am most concerned about my fitness and readiness to return to the field. I feel strong, everything is going well. I spoke with my father because we constantly maintain close relationships. He will take care of everything, and I just want to play football," said the Barcelona forward.
