On the second day of Christmas in the English Premier League, the 18th round matches were played.
In the earliest match, Manchester United players struggled to victory against Hull City away.
In the beginning of the game, the hosts took the lead with goals by James Chester and David Meyler, making it 2-0, but before half-time, Chris Smalling and Wayne Rooney equalized the score.
In the second half, Hull City defender J. Chester made an own goal, leading Manchester United to celebrate a crucial victory and adding three points to their tally in the league table.
In the following matches, the favorites had different fortunes.
Chelsea players under Jose Mourinho won three points at home. Eden Hazard's goal secured a victory for the "aristocrats" against Swansea City.
Another capital team, Arsenal, recovered in the derby against West Ham and added important three points to their tally.
At the start of the second half, Carlton Cole took advantage of a mistake by Wojciech Szczesny to put Sam Allardyce's team ahead, but goals by Theo Walcott and one by Lukas Podolski led to Arsenal's victory away.
Meanwhile, Tottenham did not fare as well. Tim Sherwood's team played a draw at home against West Bromwich with a score of 1-1. The goals were scored by Christian Eriksen and Jonas Olsson.
Roberto Martinez's Everton players suffered a defeat at home to Sunderland.
"Newcastle" and "Southampton" clubs celebrated overwhelming victories. Alan Pardew's team showed no mercy at home with a 5-1 win over Stoke City, while Mauricio Pochettino's players thrashed Cardiff City away with a 3-0 victory.
In the evening matches, two Premier League giants will test their strength. Manchester City will host Liverpool players at home.
