London's "Chelsea" club defender Michael Essien may leave the team this winter, according to his agent Fabian Piveteau.
According to the agent, several top European clubs are interested in the player's services, and a decision about his future will be made in the next 10 days.
"Essien may leave Chelsea this winter. There are several teams competing in the Champions League who would like to acquire him. Everything should be clarified within 10 days," Piveteau assured French radio "RMC."
"Michael was not included in Chelsea's squad for the Champions League tournament, so he could represent another team in this competition."
The agent also confirmed that there is no possibility of M.Essien returning to the "Bastia" club, where he spent three seasons at the beginning of his career.
"Return to 'Bastia'? That's where we have to stop. Michael plays for a big club and in the 'Ligue 1' championship he could represent PSG or Lyon, but not 'Bastia' or 'Sochaux.' With all due respect to these clubs, they could not afford to pay Essien's salary," Piveteau concluded.
Within Chelsea's ranks, the 31-year-old defender has played 253 matches, scored 25 goals, and made 17 assists. He represented the Ghana national team in 37 matches.
Throughout his career, M.Essien has also worn the jerseys of "Real," "Lyon," and the aforementioned "Bastia" team.
