Occupying the seventh position in the English Championship league in terms of capacity, "Leeds United" club has extended the contract with the Lithuanian national team defender Marius Žaliūkas for twelve months - until the end of June 2015.
The financial conditions of the new contract for the 30-year-old Lithuanian footballer are not detailed.
M. Žaliūkas' previous contract with the English club was valid until the end of the 2013-2014 season.
According to the "Leeds United" website, after a successful performance in the new eleventh, the club managers decided to offer the Lithuanian defender, who plays in the center-back position, to extend his contract on "more favorable terms."
"We are pleased that he has signed a new contract. The first contract was short-term, but he performed excellently and fit into the team. This is good news," - quoted head coach Brian McDermott.
According to one of the club executives David Haigh, the future of "Leeds United" is connected with the Lithuanian footballer, who is assigned a significant role in the team.
"Marius performed well in the team after Brian called him for a trial, so we felt obliged to thank him with a new contract. We are pleased that the agreement with the Lithuanian has been signed. We hope that in January new players will join the team," - hoped D. Haigh.
Following the trial, M. Žaliūkas played ten matches for "Leeds United" starting from October of last year.
Throughout his career, the Lithuanian national team defender also played for Kauno "Inkaras" (2002-2004), Kaunas FBK "Kauno" (2004, 2005-2010), FK "Šilutė" (2004-2005), and Edinburgh "Hearts" (2006-2013) club in Scotland.
