The reason for S. Rosell's resignation - threats to his family © EuroFootball.com

On Thursday, Sandro Rosell, who had held the position of president of the "Barcelona" club, stepped down from his duties. Despite the fact that the Spaniard's departure from the public eye is mostly associated with Neymar's transfer, he himself admitted that he resigned due to family reasons.

Sandro Rosell revealed that during the holiday period, his home was attacked by armed assailants.

"For some time now, my family and I have been quietly suffering from threats and attacks. This made me think that by holding the position of club president I am putting my loved ones in a lot of danger and suffering," confessed the 49-year-old entrepreneur.

"My family will be very pleased with my decision."

Sandro Rosell had been leading the "Barcelona" club since 2010, when he took over the position of president from Joan Laporta.

Until 2016, Sandro Rosell will be replaced by former vice president Jose Maria Bartomeu.
