On Friday, UEFA announced the baskets for the 2016 European Football Championship. 53 teams were divided into six baskets. The Lithuanian national football team ended up in the fifth - penultimate - basket. Latvians and Estonians are higher. For the first time in the list, the Gibraltar national team appeared, which could also become Lithuania's opponent.

The draw will take place in Nice on February 23. Then the teams will be divided into groups.

In the 2016 European Football Championship, which will take place in France, 24 teams will compete.

For political reasons, the UEFA Executive Committee has stipulated that Azerbaijan cannot play against Armenia, and Spain cannot play against the Gibraltar national team.

The qualifiers for the European Football Championship will begin in September 2014 and run until October 2015.

For the first time, the qualifying tournament will follow the "Football Week" principle. This means that matches will take place from Thursday to Tuesday.
