Two defenders of the Mexican national team were removed from the squad for disciplinary reasons. Both players played in the match against Brazil on Sunday, which the Mexicans unexpectedly won 1-0.
The 23-year-old Aaron Galindo was included in the team lineup for the matches against Japan and Brazil, replacing the injured Rafael Marquez, while the 29-year-old Salvador Carmona is a long-time national team player who has participated in the last two World Cups.
"This decision was made in order to maintain a good atmosphere in the national team," said a statement from the Mexican football federation.
Having secured two wins out of as many possible, the Mexicans have already secured a place in the semifinals, where they will meet the Argentine national team. The Mexicans will play their third group match against Greece today (Wednesday).
