Former Spanish national team coach Luis Aragones, who led his team to victory in the EURO 2008 championship, passed away on Saturday morning after a battle with a serious oncological disease.

The former long-time striker for Madrid's "Atletico" passed away at a clinic in the Spanish capital, as confirmed by the doctor.

The 75-year-old Spaniard, during his 17-year football career, played for nine Spanish clubs. L. Aragones wore the "Atletico" shirt for 10 years, and also played for two years at the beginning of his career with Madrid's "Real" team.

Meanwhile, L. Aragones began coaching teams in 1974. The last club where the strategist worked was Istanbul's "Fenerbahce" in the 2008-2009 season.

The 75-year-old former footballer is best known as a coach, with the national team he coached winning the European championship in 2008.
