Former Bayern Munich head coach Jupp Heynckes, in an exclusive interview with the newspaper "El Mundo Deportivo," stated that he has no doubt that young Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be a suitable replacement for Victor Valdes, who is leaving Barcelona.
The 21-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper has been linked with the Catalan club since the beginning of last year.
Suggestions that the young German will don the Barcelona shirt intensified at the end of 2013, when Ter Stegen officially announced that he will not be signing a new contract with his current team.
Interest in the talented goalkeeper is no secret to Barcelona representatives, who, however, have so far spoken cautiously and vaguely about acquiring the player.
Nevertheless, few doubt that Barcelona will be the next step in Ter Stegen's career.
Heynckes is convinced that Barcelona is making the right choice: "Ter Stegen is already prepared for serious challenges. Of course, many talk about his age, he is still young, but he is a mature and psychologically prepared goalkeeper. He will properly replace Victor Valdes."
Heynckes, who won all possible trophies with Bayern Munich last season, stated that the best goalkeeper in the world is currently Manuel Neuer, but he also added that Ter Stegen has a bright future ahead.
"He is a goalkeeper who knows his goals firmly. Marc-Andre is a professional of the highest level, a true team player and a great person. By the way, he lives not far from my home. He is a good guy," said the 68-year-old former Bayern coach.
